FunctieomschrijvingMission
• The organization plays a central role in enabling a successful energy transition towards a sustainable future.
• To support its core activities — such as the development and operation of the high-voltage network — the Asset & System Data team manages and develops the network’s system model.
• This model enables advanced control, calculations, and analyses that guide key operational and strategic decisions.
• As a Real-Time Control Engineer, you will be part of the team responsible for connecting new generation units to the Belgian electricity grid.
• You will ensure that new production units are accurately modeled in the system model and that they can communicate in real time with the Energy Management System (EMS).
• The position offers valuable experience with advanced grid calculation tools, data management systems, and daily collaboration with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Role Description
• Develop expertise in PowerFactory, EMS, and other internal applications related to your area of specialization.
• Monitor the evolution of internal and external concepts and processes related to conformity procedures for new generation units.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to coordinate the planning and implementation of new generation units and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Ensure the accurate modeling and representation of these units in key system tools, maintaining consistent links between EMS and PowerFactory.
• Manage and document the operational aspects of integrations prior to commissioning.
• Oversee the real-time information exchange with clients, including the management of secure communication channels (e.g., private VPN connections).
• Address client inquiries related to real-time signal transmission.
• Plan and execute compliance tests in collaboration with internal colleagues and technical contacts on the client’s side.
• Actively monitor the correct application of real-time signal exchanges, ensuring alignment with technical and operational requirements.
• Contribute to maintaining and updating model data for new units in system tools, with a focus on data quality, consistency, and integration across the broader data environment.
• Provide technical support to the dispatching team and internal departments for the activation of flexibility services on new generation units.
• Design and document data flows and processes, implement necessary improvements or standardizations, and support related working groups.
Functie-eisenCompetences
• Master’s degree in a technical field (preferably telecommunications, energy, electrical engineering, or electromechanics).
• Basic understanding of high-voltage network modeling, especially for generation and storage assets, and familiarity with component properties and their roles in the electrical system.
• Strong team player with initiative, structured work habits, and clear communication skills—especially in client interactions.
• Flexible and customer-oriented mindset.
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to clearly articulate and defend technical positions to clients.
• Capable of working with highly critical systems, always exercising caution and thoughtful decision-making.
