Wat ga je doen?

FoodTech is hot! If you’re looking for a career in engineering with impact and scale, but you don’t want to move away from coding as your core activity, keep reading.

As Store/DC Infrastructure Engineer you will build our Store (& Distribution center) test lab of the future and you will work on further automating and integrating our store infrastructure ecosystem. This will require a mixture of physical IT hardware & devices, public cloud (Azure), edge computing, DevOps and Internet-of-Things (IoT) technologies.

One of our challenges for the period ahead is to create an infrastructure platform with an amazing developer experience where many of our teams can test applications and develop new concepts for our stores (and later also our distribution centers). This will require a self-service solution driven by infrastructure automation for both a physical test lab as well as a digital test lab.

This role is pivotal in enabling our product teams to innovate and enhance both customer and employee experiences. You will tackle the engineering challenge of scaling and managing this infrastructure to support our 50 test stores and apply lessons learned from our 1250 stores.

As part of a small, dynamic team with numerous stakeholders, your ability to take initiative and work proactively is crucial.

This is how you will reinvent food retail
Working for AH Technology means you like these kinds of challenges: we think big and work at scale. As a Store/DC Infra Engineer you understand how these technologies need to be realized in a complex environment this large. Together with your team you solve technical challenges with a true engineering mindset. Specifically, together with the team you will:

  • Lead and contribute to Cloud / Intune migration projects for store devices (e.g. Zebra PDAs, iPads), replacing legacy MDM solutions and enabling a unified management platform.
  • Work on a wide range of store infrastructure projects – from network upgrades and new hardware rollouts (PoS, ESL, self-scan, back-office servers) to cloud migrations and integrations with our Azure landscape.
  • Apply cloud-native and edge-native best practices to improve our test lab and store environments, ensuring they are future-proof, secure, and reliable.
  • Build fully automated infrastructure components using Infrastructure-as-Code and Configuration-as-Code (Terraform, Intune policies, scripting), both in our Azure clouds and decentralized store infrastructure.
  • Implement DevOps tooling and workflows (e.g. GitHub Actions) to automate deployments, testing and configuration management in our store environments.
  • Integrate our store infrastructure and devices with the Observability platform (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki) to improve monitoring, insights, and alerting.
  • Explore and leverage IoT and edge technologies to identify operational improvements in the test lab and production stores.
  • Help craft and run proofs of concept and pilots for new store technologies, uphold security and quality standards, and drive adoption of best practices.
  • Share your knowledge within our community and contribute to projects across the Store Supply Chain Tech Platform and the wider AH Technology landscape.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends in Intune, retail infrastructure, automation, and IoT, and translate them into practical, scalable solutions for our stores.

Your new team and office.
Together with your team you will work on inspiring projects to accelerate our transition into a hybrid Food & Tech company. We want to leverage data and technology to future-proof food shopping and give our customers the accessibility to healthy food more easily available for everyone. At Albert Heijn, you team up with inspiring peers in the data, digital and tech domains. A community of diverse individuals who share a common goal; to create digital solutions that make (online) shopping simpler and more inspiring. Are you ready to reinvent the way millions of people buy and enjoy their food? We invest heavily in data, digital and tech. And that includes investing in your career! Our teams work in a hybrid way: both from home as well as in the office. We are located right next to the train station of Zaandam.

We think it’s important to be part of a high-belonging team; a team where you can be yourself and feel safe, accepted and appreciated. For this job we are preferably looking for someone who brings diversity in our team, in the widest possible sense. Someone who is a great addition to our team by bringing other ideas to the table. Don’t check all the boxes? Don’t worry, we probably don’t either 😉. Don’t hesitate to apply if you think you are up for the challenge, we’re happy to have a look at your resume!

The recipe for maximum impact
To become successful as our new Store/DC Infra Engineer you bring:

  • A Technology/IT Engineering Master or Bachelor degree
  • At least 4+ years’ experience as Cloud/Platform/DevOps engineer with a broad knowledge of infrastructure
  • Experience in the development of cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred, but we will get you up to speed if you have AWS or Google experience)
  • Experience in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred)
  • Know your way around with DevOps tooling including observability (Grafana stack) and release engineering automation (Github Actions)
  • Hands-on experience with MS Intune
  • Good understanding of networking, e.g. VLAN, firewall
  • Affinity with IT store hardware & devices (physical infrastructure)
  • Strong communicator in English

What we offer.
At Albert Heijn we aim to grow, and this is only possible if you grow along with us. As we work together to build our brand and your career, you can count on (based on 40 hours per week):

  • An annual salary up to 79k including holiday allowance and a flexible bonus. Depending on your level of seniority and experience;
  • 45 days of paid leave to enjoy your well-deserved holidays: 25,5 regular vacation days and 19,5 ADV days. Enjoy!
  • Flexible working hours;
  • Access to a challenging training curriculum – AH Tech Academy;
  • An excellent pension plan where we as an employer contribute 4,5 more than you as an employee;
  • A travel allowance or a NS-business card for traveling to and from Zaandam by train;
  • Attractive discounts on various insurance policies;
  • 10% staff discount on groceries in all Albert Heijn stores, to a maximum of €300 per year;
  • A free Mijn Albert Heijn Premium membership with many benefits;
