The company: About AH Technology, food retail reinventors

Albert Heijn goes way back; more than 130 years, to be exact.  Ffor millions of people, food shopping is synonymous with the Albert Heijn brand. We didn’t achieve this with a complacent, ‘hey, if it works today, it’ll work tomorrow’ approach, but by continually rethinking our propositions and staying plugged in to customer demands.

Over 1,200 stores? Check.

The leading online food retail platform? Check.

We build it, we run it and we love it. 😉

So, what’s next?

We want to accelerate our transition into a hybrid Food & Tech company by leveraging data and technology to future-proof food shopping. Our goal is to make better food more easily accessible to everyone. At AH Technology, you team up with inspiring peers in the data, digital and tech domains. A community of diverse individuals who share a common purpose: to create digital solutions that make shopping simpler and more inspiring, both online and in our stores.

We invest heavily in tech. That includes investing in your career! Are you ready to reinvent the way millions of people buy and enjoy their food?

As an Edge & IoT DevOps Engineer you build technical products for our engineers with the specific focus on our Store and Distribution Center (DC) infrastructure. These technical products are related to public cloud, edge cloud computing and Internet-of-Things (IoT) technologies. This will enable our product teams to develop new products to improve our customer and employee experience. The engineering challenge for you and team to solve is how to introduce this at scale with our more than 1250 stores and 6 large Distribution Centers.

Following Inner-Sourcing principles, you will work with users and maintainers throughout the whole organization to fit your ideas into the bigger picture: Accelerate our product teams so that they can deliver quality customer value quickly and autonomously.

This is how you will reinvent food retail

Working for AH Technology means you like these kinds of challenges: we think big and work at scale. As a DevOps Engineer you understand how these technologies need to be realized in a complex environment this large. Together with your team you solve technical challenges with a true engineering mindset. Specifically, you will together with the team:

  • Build cloud based technical platforms in our Store and DC infrastructure using Kubernetes and containerization technologies
  • Build and configure IoT platforms to enable smart Stores and DC’s
  • Integrate the above with central cloud components in our (Azure) public cloud, e.g. Kubernetes management, observability, security, API management, data platforms, etc.
  • Use infrastructure-as-code and configuration-as-code to build fully automated technical components in our infrastructure: both in our public cloud(s) and decentral infrastructure
  • Implement DevOps tooling to enable CI/CD in our store and DC environments
  • Implement Observability tooling (components) and configuration to enable E2E critical chain observability
  • Follow and adhere to Site Reliability Engineering principles to build robust, resilient and scalable technical solutions in our infrastructure
  • Provide input to technical architectures of edge and IoT infrastructure solutions
  • Help in crafting proofs of concept, participate in automated solution development, uphold security and quality, and learn from best practices
  • Share your knowledge and participate in projects within the product cluster and broader AH Technology Platform;
  • Engage in ongoing learning and contribute to updates in key practices
  • Collaborate in developing processes to bring value efficiently

What you’ll need for maximum impact

To become successful as our new Edge & IoT DevOps Engineer you bring:

  • A Technology/IT Engineering Master or Bachelor degree;
  • 3 years+ experience as (Cloud) DevOps engineer working in a complex (corporate) Technology environment
